LIVEAFX Trade lost roughly 24.15 million dollars on Wednesday after an attacker compromised its bridge. Security experts confirmed that this was not a bug in the smart contract code. Instead, the attacker gained control of five validator signatures, which allowed them to meet the required quorum for a withdrawal. Once the system cleared the funds, the attacker moved the USDC to Ethereum and converted it into 12,467 ETH.
Steven Goldfeder from Offchain Labs clarified that the main Arbitrum bridge remains secure and was not part of the exploit. This incident highlights a growing trend where attackers focus on private keys and off chain components rather than searching for flaws in the blockchain code itself. The stolen funds currently remain in a single wallet, making them easy to track but difficult to recover.
This loss follows a series of security incidents within the Arbitrum ecosystem over the past few months. With recent attacks on other protocols like Ostium and Kelp DAO, the community is debating how much control central security councils should have over decentralized networks. Traders should remain cautious while developers work to strengthen the security of cross chain bridges.
