Arthur Hayes Predicts Fed Yen Plan Will Send Bitcoin Higher

Arthur Hayes believes a new plan by the Federal Reserve to help Japan defend the yen will print fresh dollar liquidity and send Bitcoin higher. Hayes, who co founded BitMEX, explains that the strategy relies on the Foreign and International Monetary Authorities Repo Facility. This program allows foreign governments to use United States Treasuries as collateral for short term dollar loans instead of selling those assets outright.

Under this scenario, Tokyo could repo part of its massive Treasury stockpile for dollars, sell those dollars for yen, and support its own markets. The Federal Reserve balance sheet grows to fund each loan, which acts much like printing money. Hayes points out that Bitcoin remains one of the most liquidity sensitive assets in the entire market, meaning extra cash in the system usually spells good news for crypto holders.

Not everyone agrees on how this will play out, because some former officials argue the facility was built for market stress rather than currency intervention. Furthermore, any expansion of the lending cap requires approval from the Federal Open Market Committee, and officials have not yet committed to a schedule. Even so, Hayes and his fund remain positioned in major digital assets, expecting the liquidity wave to lift the broader market in the months ahead.
