UK based B HODL Plc recently tested a strategy where it bought back its own shares instead of purchasing more Bitcoin. During a one week period, the company spent roughly 38,000 pounds to retire over 800,000 shares. This move resulted in about 24 percent more Bitcoin exposure per share than if the company had used that same cash to buy Bitcoin at current market prices.

The logic works because the company shares were trading at a discount compared to the value of the Bitcoin held by the firm. When a treasury company trades below the value of its underlying assets, buying back shares effectively allows the business to acquire its own Bitcoin reserves at a lower cost per unit. This strategy helps keep the amount of Bitcoin owned by each remaining share higher.

B HODL continues to use a capital allocation system that switches between issuing new shares and buying back existing ones based on market conditions. If the shares are trading at a discount, buybacks are favored to boost exposure. If the share price rises, the firm may choose to issue more equity if it results in adding more Bitcoin per share.

While this approach shows promise for treasury firms, it is not a simple rule for everyone. Investors should watch how these companies balance cash reserves, debt levels, and operating costs. While buybacks can be efficient, a company must still maintain enough liquidity to keep its business running smoothly, regardless of the potential gains in Bitcoin per share.
