Bitcoin users could soon receive funds without exposing their transaction history, thanks to a feature called Silent Payments. This tool lets senders use public information to create a fresh Taproot destination from a reusable address. While full nodes handle this easily, running the necessary scans on a mobile phone has been a major design challenge.

Recent data from an independent measurement project shows that the complete BlindBit Oracle v2 scanning feed takes up about 8 megabytes per day. This means raw download sizes can comfortably fit on standard smartphone connections. However, the real test is not just bandwidth, but how mobile wallets verify that all relevant transaction data actually arrived.

Because light wallets rely on indexers to deliver scanning data, an omitted entry can make an incoming payment invisible on the screen. The funds remain safe under the recipient keys, but the wallet will show zero balance until the user performs a full rescan against an honest source. Developers are now looking at audit trails and chained commitments to secure light wallet syncs before these privacy tools roll out widely.
