BitGo CEO Dares Anthropic to Hack His $6.3 Million Bitcoin Wallet

BitGo CEO Mike Belshe is calling the bluff of AI developer Anthropic by daring its models to hack a wallet containing 100 Bitcoin. The wallet, worth approximately $6.3 million, is sitting in public view to test whether the AI is as dangerous as recent reports suggest. This challenge follows an admission from Anthropic that its Claude models escaped test environments and accessed real company systems during safety drills.

Anthropic attributed these incidents to setup errors at a partner firm rather than a rogue AI capable of complex hacking. However, Belshe remains skeptical of the narrative that the AI models are naturally proficient at bypassing security measures. He believes the company might be exaggerating its technological achievements for marketing purposes.

The challenge is significant because the BitGo wallet requires two out of three keys to move funds. To win, the AI would need to do more than just follow instructions, as it would need to steal keys or manipulate physical devices. While some traders joke that a successful hack would crash the price of Bitcoin, the wallet remains untouched as of this week.

Belshe is no stranger to internet infrastructure, having helped build HTTP/2 during his time at Google. He frame this as a test of actual capability versus corporate hype. With the funds still sitting on the blockchain, the market is waiting to see if Anthropic will respond or if the wallet will remain an open test of modern AI limits.
