LIVEThe crypto industry is saying goodbye to a long standing player as BitMEX prepares to cease operations. The exchange announced on Thursday that it will fully close on September 23, 2026. This decision follows a strategic review, marking the end of an eleven year run in the digital asset space.
Users should take immediate action. The exchange has stopped all new account registrations and will begin blocking new trading positions on August 26. From that date forward, traders will only be able to reduce or close their existing positions. BitMEX plans to force close any remaining open trades as the final deadline approaches to ensure all accounts are settled.
If you have funds on the platform, move them to a private wallet soon. The company has warned that balances left after the closure will be subject to fees for verified users. Additionally, all BMEX tokens have been unstaked and returned to user accounts. Stay cautious and ignore any suspicious messages or phishing attempts related to this shutdown.
