BitMEX settled 35 derivatives contracts today, closing all remaining positions and canceling open orders as the exchange takes another step toward its final shutdown in September. The platform noted that low trading interest and the upcoming closure drove the decision, clarifying that the action was an early settlement rather than a standard margin liquidation.

Before the midday cutoff, contracts traded normally while the platform fixed the final funding rate. Once the settlement processed, BitMEX added lifetime profits or losses directly to user balances without charging any settlement fee. The wiped contracts include various crypto pairs alongside several traditional currency and commodity derivatives.

This move marks a major milestone in the wider wind down process for the platform. New user registrations have already stopped, and reduce only trading begins on August 26. Exchange services will completely end on September 23, and users who leave assets on the platform after that date face monthly account fees.
