Sequans Communications has aggressively reduced its Bitcoin holdings to strengthen its financial position. The cellular chipmaker sold 1,200 Bitcoin during the second quarter, cutting its treasury by nearly 80 percent. This move left the company with 314 BTC as of June 30, down from the 1,514 BTC it held just three months earlier.

The sales were primarily used to retire the company's remaining convertible debt. By June 1, Sequans had successfully redeemed $94.5 million in principal. This strategy cleared the company's balance sheet of debt while boosting its cash position. By the end of June, Sequans reported $21 million in cash and cash equivalents, up from $10.6 million at the start of the quarter.

This shift highlights a growing trend of companies treating Bitcoin as a liquid asset rather than a permanent store of value. The remaining 314 BTC are now unrestricted, meaning they are no longer tied up as collateral and can be sold at any time if the company needs additional liquidity. While the company still faces broader financial challenges with a reported quarterly net loss, the sale significantly improved its immediate capital structure.
