Coinbase has officially brought back the Coinbase Wallet name, ending a one year attempt to turn its popular crypto app into a social network. The platform briefly carried the Base App name starting in July 2025, featuring social feeds and messaging. Jesse Pollak, creator of the Base network, handed the app back to Coinbase after calling the social experiment a failure.

Chief executive Brian Armstrong pulled the plug on several social experiments, including creator coins and team backed tokens, after finding that most hype driven tokens quickly collapsed. The newly renamed wallet now focuses entirely on trading tools. Users can access perpetual futures through Hyperliquid, alongside prediction markets and tokenized stocks across more than ten blockchain networks.

Traders looking for basic token swaps will mostly notice a new icon, while advanced users gain direct access to leveraged products and new networks like Robinhood Chain and Monad. Perpetual futures remain blocked for users in the United States due to ongoing regulatory limits. Coinbase has not yet shared fee schedules or user growth numbers for the updated trading hub.
