Enflame, a startup backed by Tencent, saw its shares jump significantly on Friday during its Shanghai stock exchange debut. The stock opened at 410 yuan, a 188 percent increase from its initial price of 142.18 yuan, eventually climbing to a peak of 475 yuan. Investor demand was extremely high, with retail orders for the shares exceeding the available supply by over 6,000 times.

This listing marks the final public entry for China's top four AI chip startups. While the initial surge reflects strong local interest, previous debuts from peers like MetaX and Moore Threads have shown that maintaining those price levels is difficult. Several of those companies have seen their stock values fall by double digits in the months following their initial listings.

The push for domestic AI chips is largely driven by US export controls that limit Nvidia from shipping its most powerful processors to China. While international chips currently hold about 60 percent of the Chinese AI accelerator market, domestic firms are working to close the gap. Enflame reported revenue of 990 million yuan for 2025 and plans to use its new funding to develop more advanced fifth and sixth generation processors.

Investors will now watch to see if Enflame can maintain its momentum or if it will follow the path of its predecessors. With projections suggesting China could spend 82 billion dollars on semiconductor capital by 2030, the pressure is on these local startups to prove their hardware can handle real world artificial intelligence workloads.
