Federal Prosecutors Charge Three In Ballot Petition Fraud Case

Federal prosecutors recently charged three people from California and Florida with running an illegal ballot petition scheme. According to the United States Attorney Office, the suspects paid residents in the Skid Row area of Los Angeles to forge signatures. The operation allegedly used stolen identities of registered voters to manufacture support for ballot petitions meant to shape local laws.

Investigators state that James Brass of Victorville received roughly forty one thousand dollars from coordinators connected to a petition management company. Brass, along with Courtney Price and Jateisha Herron, now faces federal conspiracy charges. Brass and Price also face an additional count of identity fraud for allegedly falsifying witness declarations.

Law enforcement officials emphasize that such schemes threaten public trust in the election system and waste taxpayer resources. Each count carries a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison if the defendants are convicted.
