Former Deputy Sentenced for Using Fake Warrant to Track Cellphone

A former law enforcement officer is heading to federal prison after admitting to a serious abuse of official power. David Anthony Rodriguez, a 45 year old deputy, used a fake search warrant to secretly track a man's cellphone location data for the benefit of a private client.

Rodriguez lied directly to a judge to secure the GPS tracking data, exposing major vulnerabilities in court approved surveillance systems. The case highlights how sensitive tracking powers can be exploited for personal or private gain outside of legitimate police work.
