Victoria Tomeatre Green, a 29 year old from Des Moines, has been sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison. The former contract worker at Iowa Workforce Development admitted to submitting over 50 fraudulent unemployment claims between March and December of 2020.

Green used her position to file 25 false claims under her own name while also using the identities of other people to submit 27 additional requests. This activity resulted in a total theft of 29,459 dollars in government funds. Officials from the U.S. Department of Labor stated that the scheme directly exploited money intended for struggling workers.

Along with the prison sentence, the court ordered Green to serve three years of supervised release and pay back the full amount of stolen funds. The investigation, which was led by the FBI and the Department of Labor, highlights the ongoing crackdowns on pandemic era benefit fraud across the country.
