LIVEThe FTX estate is preparing to release roughly $900 million to creditors on July 31. This marks the fifth distribution since the platform collapsed in late 2022. Eligible users who met the June 16 record date requirements will receive their funds through platforms like BitGo, Kraken, or Payoneer within a few business days.
Most creditor classes will now see their total recoveries exceed their original claim amounts. For instance, international customers will reach 105 percent of their claims, while convenience claims will reach 120 percent. The estate is also distributing $18 million to preferred equity holders as part of this effort to resolve outstanding debts.
It is important to note that these payouts are calculated based on cryptocurrency values at the time of the 2022 bankruptcy filing. With Bitcoin priced near $16,000 back then, many creditors feel the sting of missing out on the significant market growth that happened since.
Analysts are watching to see if this cash injection flows back into the wider crypto market. Much of the funds may not reach original users, as many creditors sold their claims to distressed debt funds years ago. The FTX recovery team continues to finalize these payments after years of asset liquidation following the exchange failure.
