Bitcoin prices held near $64,000 recently, but market analysts are watching the Bank of Japan very closely. Following a decision to keep benchmark interest rates unchanged at 1 percent, experts are warning that Japan faces a massive financial dilemma. For decades, the country relied on near zero interest rates to fight deflation and build up massive public debt. Now, rising wage growth above 5 percent complicates that strategy.

If Japanese policymakers raise rates, banks and pension funds holding low yield bonds face severe pressure, while government debt becomes harder to refinance. If they keep rates low, the yen continues to slide, making energy and food imports much more expensive. This weakness fueled the popular carry trade for years, where investors borrowed cheap yen to buy foreign assets, tech stocks, and Bitcoin.

If that carry trade unwinds quickly, investors will sell foreign assets to buy back the yen, creating a chain reaction of forced liquidations. While Bitcoin shrugged off recent central bank volatility, traders should monitor Japanese bond yields, currency shifts, and capital flows. Any sudden policy changes could quickly spill over into the broader cryptocurrency market.
