LIVELisk token holders experienced a chaotic Sunday as the price climbed above $2. This move marked a 900 percent gain from its August low point. However, the momentum vanished quickly. Within hours, the token surrendered most of those gains and retreated to trade near $0.80.
This volatility created the largest liquidation event in the crypto market over a 24 hour period. Data shows $41 million in LSK positions were wiped out. Most of these liquidations came from short sellers who were forced to buy back the token as the price rose. This created a cycle where buying pushed the price higher, which then forced more short sellers to exit.
The activity follows recent news that Lisk plans to shut down its current blockchain on October 31 to pivot toward stablecoin payments. A proposal to burn 100 million LSK tokens from the treasury is currently pending a community vote. Traders are watching to see if the token can hold any value as the network migration deadline approaches.
Users should pay attention to the upcoming chain shutdown. Those with funds on the Lisk chain must bridge their assets to Ethereum before the end of October. With the token still down over 97 percent from its 2018 peak, the next three weeks will be critical for the project.
