LIVEStrategy reported an 8.22 billion dollar loss in the second quarter, largely due to price swings in its massive Bitcoin holdings. While the company continues to aggressively grow its digital asset pile, the volatility highlighted risks in its financing model. Specifically, the firm had to sell a small portion of its Bitcoin to cover obligations related to its STRC preferred stock.
Management is now focused on returning the STRC preferred stock to its 100 dollar stated value. The stock price fell below that level earlier this year, which makes it harder for the company to issue new shares to fund fresh Bitcoin purchases. To fix this, Strategy has rebuilt its cash reserve to 3.75 billion dollars and launched a 1 billion dollar buyback program for the preferred shares.
Michael Saylor and his team are looking at September 8 as a target date for this recovery. They believe that if the market reacts similarly to how it did after the initial launch, the stock could return to par by that time. Whether the company can hit this goal without selling more of its Bitcoin reserve remains a key point for market observers to monitor in the coming weeks.
