MicroStrategy reported a net loss of $8.22 billion for the second quarter of 2026. The headline loss came from unrealized fair value drops on its bitcoin holdings as crypto prices fell during the period. A year earlier, the firm posted a $10.02 billion profit, showing how standard accounting rules create huge swings in quarterly earnings when bitcoin prices move.

Despite the paper loss, the company expanded its treasury holdings. As of late July, Strategy held 843,775 bitcoin after growing its stack by 11 percent during the quarter. The firm also lowered its convertible debt by 18 percent, built up its cash reserves to $3.75 billion, and reported positive growth in its core software business with revenue reaching $122.4 million.

Executive Chairman Michael Saylor and CEO Phong Le stressed that the period was focused on financial strength and long term capital strategy rather than short term earnings. Traders will now watch to see if a price rebound for bitcoin brings the company back into profitability on paper during the second half of the year.
