Osmosis has halted allBTC minting and redemptions after a technical error in the Nomic custom forwarding system led to a double spend incident. This bug created false nBTC vouchers, which resulted in a shortfall for the allBTC asset. Approximately 36 percent of the total allBTC backing is currently in question, though Osmosis confirmed that its main chain and the Inter Blockchain Communication protocol remain secure.

The exploit was traced back to activities occurring between June and July. Although the issue was discovered recently, researchers noted that the problematic funds remained unmoved for several weeks. To contain the situation, Osmosis blocked inflows and outflows related to the Nomic bridge, effectively freezing 22.65 BTC linked to the incident.

Now, the path forward rests in the hands of the community. The Osmosis team intends to propose a governance vote to confiscate the frozen Bitcoin and utilize assets from the community pool to cover the remaining deficit. Until this process is complete, the total backing for allBTC remains lower than its circulating supply, leaving holders in a state of uncertainty regarding their redemption parity.
