Revolut Hackers Demand 10000 Bitcoin After Data Breach

Financial tech firm Revolut is facing a major security crisis after attackers published data belonging to high profile clients over the weekend. The hacker group, calling itself Revolut Smilik, is demanding a ransom of 10000 Bitcoin, which amounts to hundreds of millions of dollars. The group has threatened to release more sensitive information daily until the fintech company pays the ransom amount.

The breach happened after attackers tricked Revolut staff by using a legitimate government agency domain email to send fraudulent requests for information. The stolen files include passports, verification selfies, account statements, names, and home addresses of select users. Revolut confirmed that it quickly blocked the attacker address, alerted law enforcement and financial regulators, and stated that general customer funds and core systems remain safe.

While Revolut insists only a limited number of users were affected and that biometric data is safe, the leak poses serious security risks. Because Revolut allows users to buy and sell crypto, leaked transaction histories could lead to targeted phishing scams. Traders and high profile users should stay extra careful with unexpected messages or emails in the coming days.
