Ripple Invests in UK Firms to Expand XRPL Utility

Ripple is making a play to boost the utility of the XRP Ledger by acquiring stakes in two London based companies, ZILO and Licuido. These firms provide the technical missing pieces for traditional finance to move assets onto the blockchain. ZILO specializes in fund ownership records, a critical requirement for banks to trust tokenized assets, while Licuido focuses on turning fund shares into tokens and providing a marketplace for lending and borrowing.

These additions arrive shortly after Aviva Investors launched a fund directly on the XRP Ledger. The current market for tokenized assets is large but often static, as many tokens sit idle without secondary uses. By integrating these services, Ripple aims to allow financial institutions to trade and use their tokenized holdings as collateral, moving beyond simple asset issuance.

Investors should note that this growth strategy focuses heavily on Ripple's new dollar stablecoin, RLUSD, which is expected to handle the bulk of transaction settlements. XRP itself serves primarily as the network fee payment method. Because these fees are burned and the costs are extremely low, the direct impact of increased network activity on the total supply of XRP remains minimal.

Looking ahead, the success of this strategy will depend on the actual volume of funds issued on the ledger rather than the number of partnership announcements. While institutional interest is rising, the gap between network utility and the market price of XRP remains a point of observation for traders as the company continues to prioritize institutional adoption of its stablecoin ecosystem.
