Solana Expands Block Capacity but Congestion Remains

LIVESolana recently implemented a significant upgrade to its network capacity. By increasing the maximum computation allowed per block from 60 million to 100 million compute units, the network now provides more room for unrelated transactions to process simultaneously. This change is designed to handle more activity without overloading the system.
While the total block limit grew, the specific restrictions on individual accounts stayed exactly the same. Each account is still limited to 12 million compute units per block. This means that if many users are trying to trade the same asset or interact with a single popular contract at once, they will still compete for the same limited space.
Traders should note that this upgrade does not guarantee lower priority fees for high demand assets. Because the 12 million unit cap remains for individual accounts, the pressure on busy services has not changed. The network is essentially more spacious for general traffic, but it remains just as restricted for congested areas.
Moving forward, keep an eye on how the network handles larger blocks during high volatility. Larger blocks can sometimes lead to longer processing times for validators, which may introduce new performance risks. So far, the upgrade sets a higher theoretical ceiling, but it does not act as a total cure for the network congestion traders often experience.
