LIVEStrategy paused its crypto purchases last week, choosing to spend $139 million on its preferred stock instead of adding to its massive digital asset holdings. A recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission showed that the Nasdaq listed company repurchased 1.42 million shares of its STRC stock between September 8 and September 13. Even without last week purchases, the firm still holds a staggering 845,050 bitcoins, valued at around $66.2 billion at current prices. The company also maintains significant cash reserves, holding billions across its USD Reserve and USD Cash accounts.
This move marks a shift for the company, which spent years predictably buying the leading cryptocurrency on a regular schedule. Earlier this year, the firm began prioritizing stock buybacks and building cash reserves, and it even sold small portions of its holdings at times. After a ten week break, the treasury buyer did return to the market in late August to purchase nearly $370 million in crypto, but buying activity has since stalled again.
Despite the pause in coin accumulation, the company stock traded three percent higher on Monday following the filing. The stock has experienced a steep decline of over 75 percent since reaching a record high in November 2024. Executives remain confident in the firm financial footing, pointing to a strong balance sheet as the company continues to balance its massive digital asset portfolio with traditional corporate finance strategies.
