LIVESwiss cantonal bank BancaStato has officially launched regulated crypto trading for its clients in Ticino. Customers can now buy, hold, and sell bitcoin straight from their existing web and mobile banking applications without needing an external exchange account. The bank achieved this by connecting Sygnum infrastructure directly to its Avaloq core banking system.
Bitcoin takes center stage in this new offering, which follows a broader trend among European financial institutions adopting digital assets. Client holdings are stored securely in Sygnum custody off the balance sheet. This setup keeps user funds legally protected and separated from creditors if the bank ever faces financial trouble.
BancaStato joins a growing list of Swiss institutions bringing digital assets to the mainstream, including Zürcher Kantonalbank and St. Galler Kantonalbank. With more than 25 banking partners now using its network, Sygnum continues to expand regulated crypto access for a large portion of the Swiss population. Market watchers will likely track how quickly traditional banking customers adopt these integrated crypto tools.
