Trader James Wynn Hits 22 Liquidations on S&P 500 Shorts
A persistent trader faces massive losses as his high leverage bets against the S&P 500 continue to fail.
Crypto trader James Wynn is under the spotlight after being liquidated 22 times while trading S&P 500 perpetuals on Hyperliquid. Onchain data confirms that his realized losses on these trades have hit approximately $73,100. Despite these repeated wipeouts, Wynn maintains a large short position worth over $530,000 at 50x leverage.
All 22 liquidation events took place between mid May and early August. His account value has plummeted to roughly $6,500, with margin usage sitting at over 81 percent. The trader previously shared a bearish outlook for U.S. indexes back in April, but the market has moved in the opposite direction. The S&P 500 has climbed over 13 percent since his call, hitting numerous record highs throughout the year.
At 50x leverage, even a small price swing against his position results in a forced liquidation. With his current short sitting dangerously close to his liquidation price of 7,548.37, the situation remains precarious. Wynn holds a career record on the platform showing a 28 percent win rate and total losses exceeding $22 million, serving as a stark reminder of the extreme risks associated with high leverage trading.
