LIVEA long inactive Bitcoin wallet woke up this week, moving a stash of 5,908 BTC worth roughly $383 million. The funds had sat untouched since 2017, surviving multiple massive price swings including the 2018 crash and the 2021 bull market. Even when the value of the holdings dipped significantly during the 2022 market downturn, the owner chose to hold onto the position.
The transfer was sent to a fresh, unmarked address rather than a cryptocurrency exchange. Because the coins were not sent to a trading platform, it is unlikely that the owner is planning an immediate sale. The move could indicate that the owner is simply updating security protocols or shifting assets into a more modern storage setup.
Watching the activity of massive, long term holders is a common way for traders to gauge market sentiment. While this movement does not guarantee a sell off, large transfers often precede strategic changes. Bitcoin is currently trading near $63,800 as the market watches to see if these coins will eventually move to an exchange.
